Work Arrangements
The Music Department in the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts is seeking to expand its list of instructors qualified to teach (QTT) Music private lessons. We are particularly interested in expanding our list of instructors qualified to teach French horn or percussion.

In addition to French horn lessons, the successful candidate may also be assigned to teach Class Brass (MUSC 1163). French horn instruction work is available as early as May, 2023.

In addition to percussion private lessons, the successful candidate will also teach Class Percussion (MUSC 1164) and Percussion Ensemble (MUSC 1184).

Percussion instruction work is available beginning in the Fall 2023 semester and is assigned each semester based on enrolment. Class Percussion and Class Brass are offered in alternate Winter semesters.

The Role
Contract Faculty – Instrumental Ensembles and Studio Instruction (French Horn / Percussion)
Responsibilities
The successful candidate(s) will instruct instrumental students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress in the department’s credential programs, as well as students registered in the Community Music School. As part of an integrated instructional team, the successful candidate will plan, organize, and manage learning activities, maintain quality learner-centred instruction, and model musical excellence. As a performance faculty member, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in public performances on campus, including the Arts in the Afternoon concert series.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
- a minimum of Master’s degree in Music or equivalent experience;
- a strong performance profile and excellent musicianship;
- a demonstrated ability to teach across a variety of musical styles;
- extensive knowledge of repertoire and pedagogy appropriate for the instrument or ensemble;
- a record of successful teaching and recruitment at the post-secondary level;
- a demonstrated ability to work with a population of diverse adult learners;
- a strong commitment to maintaining and growing enrolment in your studio;
- excellent communication skills, demonstrated initiative and creativity, effective interpersonal skills, and self-directedness;
- evidence of ongoing professional development.
