Work Arrangements
The Veterinary Technology Department in the Faculty of Science & Technology at Douglas College is seeking a probationary regular full-time instructor for the 2023/24 academic year.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.

The successful candidate(s) may be required to teach days, evenings, and/or Saturdays, at the Coquitlam campus.

The Role
The Veterinary Technology Department currently offers a 2-year Veterinary Technology Diploma that prepares students for certification as Veterinary Technologists. With extensive opportunities for hands-on practical experience and rigorous academic standards, our graduates consistently excel in the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). The department is seeking excellent instructors, who bring a passion for veterinary care and are interested in working with the team to support student success in the program.

The successful candidate(s) will deliver Veterinary Technology courses in the Fall and Winter semesters. Courses will be assigned based on individual expertise and the needs of the department, and may include:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Laboratory Procedures
  • Administrative Procedures
  • Pharmacology
  • Veterinary Diseases
  • Veterinary Dentistry (DVM required)
  • Large Animal Clinics
  • Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging
  • Anesthesia
  • Nursing
  • Animal Behaviour and Welfare
  • Nutrition
  • Surgical Assistance (DVM required)
  • Genetics & Reproduction
  • Lab Animals & Exotics
  • Practicum Supervision


Responsibilities
As a faculty member you will instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in College courses. You will plan, organise and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintain quality learner-centred instruction.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to attend meetings, participate in faculty and college-wide committees and engage in ongoing professional development.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
Minimum Requirements:

Successful applicants will have a minimum of three years’ of clinical veterinary experience. In addition, successful applicants will have either:

1. A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university and be a registered member of the College of Veterinarians of BC (CVBC); or
2. A Master’s Degree, Veterinary Technology (VT) or Animal Health Technology (AHT) diploma from a Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) accredited program, and be a member of the BC Veterinary Technology Association (RAHT or RVT).

Equivalent combinations of qualifications and experience will be considered.

Desired Applicant:

In addition to the above requirements, desired applicants will also have teaching experience at the college or university level, including curriculum development and implementation.

Applicants will be considered based on their experience, qualifications and availability, with preference given to qualified DVM candidates seeking a full time position.
